An exploration of colour, light and time

Paul Cézanne: “For an Impressionist to paint from nature is not to paint the subject, but to realize sensations”.

This series is rooted in the idea of replacing the traditional approach of painting from nature with an exploration of nature through color and light. Over the course of 2 ½ years, using my Leica M9 camera, I captured these images in Germany and the United States.

A key element in these photographs is the use of bokeh—the soft, out-of-focus areas created when parts of the foreground or background fall outside the lens’s depth of field. By emphasizing this effect, I aimed to evoke a stronger sense of place, inviting the viewer to feel the atmosphere rather than simply observe the details.

In this work, I draw inspiration from Cézanne’s philosophy: realizing the sensations of a place rather than focusing solely on how it appears.
